Any recommendations? I also see that some flat screen monitors have built-in speakers; do those sound any good? Because I am in the market for a monitor.
I have Logitech X-240, just got a good deal on them, but I'm a bit disappointed in the sound. I don't mind spending a bit more money for a better sound.
What to do, what to do.... at least Best Buy will take these back...

built in speakers sound terrible! depending on your budget we can give recommendations... what are these speakers used for? primarily music, pc games, etc? do you want a decent subwoofer or do you just want 2 speakers? or maybe the 5.1?

Oh ok! Good to know. I want them to sound good when playing music. A nice "full" sound, with some depth, not a cheaper sound. Surprisingly, my OEM speakers sounded so great, better than these ones. They sounded like I could just keep the volume on low and the quality was still good - you know? It didn't have to be loud to sound good, if I didnt' feel like blasting it. Does that make any sense? A sub is not necessary.... with good ones, you don't really need it.

I have the X-240 as well. The sound quality was disappointing but it's cheap and works fine for the family computer.
Personally I have this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121122
They sound good and they have good bass. The mids/highs are pretty good. Your local Fry's might have it on demo. It's THX certified too, if it means anything :P

No idea what THX certified is.... :coverlaf: And you know, I don't even know if there is a Fry's near me. It's typically not a store I've ever seen in the malls I go to. I'll have to look around. I'm going to package those speakers back all nicely and everything, hope BB doesn't have a problem with them, taking them back. Will they even look inside the box?

Fry's Electronics is actually a warehouse full of electronic goodness. It's like a super sized version of Best Buy only with better pricing. I'm not sure where you're from but here's the store locator: http://shop1.frys.com/ac/storelocator/index.jsp
I've returned something to Best Buy a long time ago. I don't recall a restocking fee but they did ask me why I was returning the item. The monitor I bought was defective and they did look inside to verify nothing was missing and that the item was indeed defective.
I checked the Best Buy website and it looks like they have the Z-2300 speakers I recommended to you: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8494328&st=logitech+speaker&type=product&id=1186003898407 It might be on display so if you like them you can order it from Newegg for $50 cheaper. You might not even have to pay for tax depending on what state you're from. I've been shopping with Newegg for a while now and their pricing is one of the best around. The service is good too. Just make sure you know what you want.
$100 is a lot of money for speakers and I don't know many people willing to spend that much but for what you get it's a bargain. I use my computer a lot and it was a easy decision for me. I've upgraded my computer a few times over the years but the speakers is the only thing I don't upgrade. For good reason too, you can't do much better without spending a significant amount of money.

Regarding Frys.... "cannot locate store near this zip code" :coverlaf:
Well I just returned the other ones and checked out what they had on display. I really like the Creative T20 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8847938&st=creative+speakers&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1209165356681#tabbed-customerreviews
These sounded the best for the price out of all of them, IMO. So - time to try and find a wicked good deal on them! :whee:
Thanks for all your help!

I've had good experience with Altec Lansing in the past. You can find a current model at wize.com
