I'm looking for advice about what I might buy for my kids. I don't want anything violent. They mostly play Guitar Hero II and III. To a lesser degree they play Harry Potter, Burnout Paradise and Need for Speed ProStreet. We have one wireless guitar and a controller. Since they seem to like the music the best, I was looking at ?? Rock Band . Is this something I buy & then buy "instruments" separately? Do I have to know specifics about my system before I go to buy (for compatibility)? Any info. about Pros/Cons, etc. Just thinking that since the like the guitar the best, I'd stay in the music area. Would appreciate any input. Thanks!

rock band has a bundle where you buy the "instruments" and the game in one box. I believe you can use the guitar hero guitar as an "extra" guitar/bass. IMO rockband is better than the rest...

Guitar Hero World Tour also does everything rock band does and has the box with all the instruments. The drums are a little more advanced then Rockband and the old guitars will still work as well.

I'm looking online (Newegg & Amazon) & see two different packages. One lists instruments and the other lists songs. Do I have to buy Rock Band to get the instruments & Rock Band 2 for the music?

if you buy a rockband 1 or 2 packaged box it should include the game.

Thanks everyone. Will continue to read this for more recommendations. Drums definately sound like fun, but don't want to duplicate songs they already have on Guiter Hero II and III. Thanks again!

The setlists are both around 80 songs.
The instruments for World Tour have been having reliability issues....IE...breaking
I personally like Guitar hero more because you can go ahead and make your own songs on it.

Rockband is great and you're on xbox live you can down load new songs using microsoft points you buy from stores such as target. Xbox Live has tons of downloadable family/kids games.
Look for rockband on craigslist I saw a few selling for $120-150 fro RB2.

Dance revolution is great for kids, they recently came out with the 360 version of it.
It also makes your kids active. Which is a huge plus.

Agreed. The best and most realistic basketball game to ever come out...
I'd suggest Left 4 Dead, but that's way, way too violent

I recommend dance revolution as well or any sporting game if you want to avoid violence.

I would recommend Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts
Pretty good game and definitely good for kids.
NBA 2k9 is amazing..and surprised to see nobody mentioned LIPS. Karaoke itself seems like fun, instead of the whole band thing.

Also, if they're really active (or if you're looking to get them a bit more active  ) consider DDR. It comes with everything that you need right out of the box, and has some old-school and some more modern music. I have to say, personally, I'm addicted.
Rock band and Guitar Hero are also fun as mess. They're all in the same general genre.

Rock band is great but if they've already got guitar hero why not step-off the music genre and having them playing banjo and kazooie or how about sega megadrive classics?
