Hi all!

I have spent the past couple days looking for a particular item: Prescription sunglasses of the wraparound sort (think Bullet sunglasses, but I don't care about brand) with a UV/yellow (shooter's) tint.
I participate in the local fencing club, and it is a serious pain getting the mask over my eyeglasses (contacts are not an option). Plus, I've used yellow-tinted glasses for driving before and I think it might help. The wraparound would also give me the added bonus of being able to look out of the corner of my eye and retain clarity/focus (or so I hope).

So far the closest to my desired price (read: $0 :D) that I've found is globaleyeglasses.com. Test submission came out to $38.83 for one pair, shipped.

Before I pull the trigger, has anyone had experience with this company? Or, for that matter, has anyone found a better deal elsewhere? Many thanks!

I just placed an order for them. It's so cheap compared to most wrap-around prescription sunglasses (Which I've been pricing) it was worth a shot.

Sometimes you just have to try something. Besides, I payed with paypal and they're verified so if they aren't any good I will file a dispute.

I have a feeling they might be a little bit fishbowly. Wrap around (curved) lenses require a special bevel cutting to give an undistorted view. I doubt for that price they'll be cut specially.

I'm hoping for the best. I know they won't be perfect. If you are going to drive or fire guns with them, by all means spend the correct amount of money and get a perfect pair (heavyglare.com). Your eyes aren't something to get cheap with.

I ordered them for an extra pair for kayaking as I break/lose so many pairs.

I might add, I was disappointed they didn't have amber. Yellow is terrible...I really wanted amber lenses.

I'm going to suck it up and get a proper pair if these aren't good. I kind of want polarized amber in wrap around

BTW...aren't most shooting glasses polarized? The cheap option on globaleyeglasses are NOT polarized. That is quite a bit more on all the budget glasses sites.

I don't recommend a wrap in prescription glasses.

Although clicking on your signature link almost made me barf, i'm coming back to report my findings to you.

I assume you haven't ordered yet. I was informed that my prescription was too strong for the curved lenses and that they wouldn't make them.

oh well. Probably best to get a real pair from heavyglare anyways, eyesight is definitely not something to be cheap about

Buying glasses from globaleyeglasses.com was a NIGHTMARE. I have never experienced worse customer service. On the same day, Jan 30, 2007, I ordered glasses with the exact same prescription (but different models) from three vendors: go-optic.com, 39dollarglasses.com, and globaleyeglasses.com. I received them all about the same time-- within 1-2 weeks, but the sunglasses I ordered from globaleyeglasses.com just didn't work. I saw double vision, and they were very painful--there was definitely something wrong with them. The other pairs of glasses from the other companies were fine. Over the next several months I had the most frustrating consumer experience of my life. I called and emailed many, many times. Each time I emailed, I would get a new email back saying that there must be something wrong with the prescription and to get a new one. Eventually, I learned that the glasses weren't compatible with my prescription, and they asked me to send them back (at my expense) and to pick a new pair. I did so immediately. Nothing happened! Each time I called (when I could get through) and explained the situation to someone new, they said they would check into it, and PROMISED (I made them swear) to call me back, but no one ever did! Eventually, I learned that the replacement pair I had chosen *also* wasn't compatible. Now it is April 21, almost 3 months after I placed my order, and I have finally received my replacement. The funny thing is, they still didn't get it right-- I asked for a dark tint, and they are tinted light (I'm not crazy enough to complain about that!). Through the whole thing, no one really seemed to care that they had messed up, and there seemed to be absolutely no system for tracking my problem, no recourse, just craziness.
Everyone I talked to and emailed there-- and there were many many long emails and telephone conversations-- it was like I was talking to someone about the problem or order for the very first time -- and then immediately after I talked to them they completely forgot about it. Do NOT order from this company. They are actually not cheaper than other companies -- for lenses with even intermediate strength, they add an extra charge (which you don't see until you check out). Also, unlike the other companies, they never requested to see my prescription or the name of my doctor. They never offered any sort of compensation for my troubles, and I suspect they hoped that I would just forget about it for the $40 I spent.

you are dropping the ball with orders at globaleyeglasses and the word is spreading.
i thought i'd give your site a try but my order has not shipped in the time frame promised. i was told that you broke the frame when inserting the lens and there were no more of those frames available. i emailed an inquiry on the shipment date and 1 response said they were getting ready for shipment. then, another email came with a solicitation for more expensive lenses.
now, i inquired about the tracking number only to learn that you still had the old frame number listed for me/ had not begun my order after 2 weeks had passed since i paid for it. you have nonworking links on the site and conflicting emails going out on orders.
not good signs....

GlobalEyeGlasses.com hmmmm.... what can I say about them that my momma would approve of?........... Lets see where to start...........

Well, what started off as a excellent bargain on a great pair of glasses, has turned out to be one of my most frustrating and difficult online merchant purchases to date. Initially I stumbled across this website promising very good looking frame and lense prices, and did a little investigating into the company. Sure enough, there were a few complaints but, not anything more unusual than you would find on any similar web merchants. So, I figured what the heck, I'll give them a shot.

Well, that was well over a month now, and here I am sitting here typing this without my glasses I ordered. Why, is that you ask? Well, its like this. My original prescription that I ordered arrived like they promise on their site in 5-9 days after the email I received from them. They looked marvelous, except for the fact that in all my wonderlust over there great bargains I (yah i'm a schmuck) incorrectly entered the prescription information. Thats when all the fun started, that same day I sent the glasses back to the address they provide on their website.

After a few days of waiting and tracking the package myself I saw that it had arrived in New York so I thought I would contact them to be sure. (As, they had not contacted me yet upon receipt of said glasses like they promised!) Well the new I received was not good. She (someone named Sheryl) tried her best although in vain to help me figure out what the delay was. Ohhhh yeah, she helped out alright. She helped by sending the same reply to any question that I sent them and I quote "I have forwarded your concern to our labs and as they get back to me i will give you report as soon as possible." Well If I had a pair of glasses for everytime they told me that I would be set for the next 10 years I suppose.

Well in an attempt to make an even longer story short, I'll close with this. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY IF THERE IS EVEN A REMOTE CHANCE THAT YOU WILL NEED TO DEAL WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. Despite having an online assistant and several contact numbers they are no help at all. Apparently there online assistants either have limited access to their information OR they just have limited information PERIOD. I hope this helps some poor schmuck like myself from being as frustrated and temporarily blind as I am.

And I quote on Jul 3rd, 2008:
Hi Sheryl,

Has your company not received my glasses that I returned yet? That's not good. Please let me know if they have been received as they show to have been delivered already?

And their reply on Jul 4th, 2008:
Dear *******

Our lab is located globally so it will take 4-5 days.
we'll give you update as we get any information.

Thanks

Global Eye Glasses

end quote.... HELLO WHAT THE FUCH DOES THAT SUPPOSE TO MEAN? AND HOW DOES THAT EVEN REMOTELY ANSWER MY QUESTION?

Beware of globaleyeglasse, also doing business on ebay as "discount-eyeglasses". Once your money is received they may not take your calls or reply your e-mails. You may end up getting "deformed" glasees patched wih super glue and no apologie. Atleast that's my uncle's experience with them Don't be their next victim.

I find it funny that some of you are so cheap that you think nothing of potentially affecting your vision to save $$. These are your eye's!!! I think you have to look at it like this. You are giving xxx company 40, 50, 60,...120, for a crappy, disposable pair of glasses. Who checks them to see if they are correct? Maybe they just took your returned glasses and gave them to the next guy with a similar prescription. Maybe they reuse frames. Or lenses. Who's disgusting face were those frames on before they spritzed a little lens cleaner on them and mailed them off. Think about where that stuff comes from. Why is it so cheap?
I am not bitter about these places, I could care less, I don't sell glasses. I just keep hoping that people keep buying these glasses so that my exam chair stays nice and full.

I ordered two pairs of eyeglasses from them about 3 months ago.

I was satisfied with the quality and delivery time.

With that being said, I didn't purchase them for my everyday glasses, just extra glasses for at home and when I felt like changing up styles and colors.

I got two pairs of glasses for $28.00 shipped. I received them in 5 business days.

My final verdict would be, if you are buying these as everyday glasses, they will not stand the test of time and everyday wear. You do get what you pay for.

If you are purchasing them for occasional wear, you can't beat the price.

Before I share my saga, I'd like to point out that Global Eye Glasses has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau. Wish I had known that before I ordered.

I sent two pairs of frames to Global Eyeglasses to have two pairs of lenses installed, each with a drastically different prescription. The correct frame for each prescription was clearly identified in the order. After about 3 weeks, I received my frames with the lenses installed into the wrong frames and SEVERE crazing (cracking in the AR coating) on one of the lenses. Screwing up the prescription is one thing, but when there is a nickel-sized cloud of cracking on the lens, there is no excuse for such a defective product leaving the lab. In addition, I'm also suspicious that premium lens I ordered was substituted with a lesser quality lens as the premium brand's water mark was missing from the lens.

I sent the glasses back. Two weeks later I get en email saying that the "correct lenses are installed". I go back and forth with their lab manager who can't seem to give me a clear answer as to whether he is claiming they didn't screw up the first time or if they've remedied the problem. I eventually get him on the phone where he says he has the glasses in his hand and has tested them to confirm the correct prescription is installed. He reads the name of each frame and tells me the correct prescription. He also tells me there is no cracking on the lens. With this, I'm satisfied that they replaced the lenses and chalk up his inability to give me a clear answer to them being horribly unorganized in their return process.

I receive the glasses a few days later WITH THE SAME SCREWED UP LENSES. The prescriptions were wrong and the incredibly obvious cracking was still there. The lab manager lied to me. There's really no way to honestly make such a mistake, especially with regard to the cracking. On top of everything, my wife's beautiful new Shuron frames were now scratched. Not to mention, that this meant they had just sat on our return for over two weeks without looking at it.

We tried to give these guys yet another shot, but I'll spare you the details of the back and forth. We eventually decided to dispute our charges rather than subject our frames to them yet again.

Given the horrible and seemingly dishonest customer service of Global Eyeglasses, I would recommend all consumers to stay clear.
