I am looking for a great deal on a computer or bare bones system and I think I have found a few. I am very hesitant about ordering because of some of the reviews or lack of reviews about these companies. Has anyone here used any of the following websites/companies and if so can you share your experience. Any and all advice is welcome and yes I already know newegg is reputable.

Quick look through resellerratings showed that neither of them, except maybe one are the best to deal with
http://pcdirectsource.com (http://slickdeals.resellerratings.com/seller_info.pl?seller_id=2176) 6.04 lifetime, nothing recently (careful)
http://www.ascendtech.us/ (http://slickdeals.resellerratings.com/seller_info.pl?seller_id=5749) 6.99 lifetime (although mixed reviews)
http://www.portatech.com/ (http://slickdeals.resellerratings.com/seller_info.pl?seller_id=2751) 4.76 lifetime, most recent reviews seem to be fake
http://www.pc-infinity.com No information
http://www.partspc.com (http://slickdeals.resellerratings.com/seller_info.pl?seller_id=1959) 5.18 Lifetime

Fry's Electronics has more than I can imagine, and they're totally reputable.

I can vouch for atacom.com I have bought lots of computer supplies from them over the last 10 yrs or so. They are located in Fremont California.
Of course if I had to pick only one supplier it would be Newegg.com tough to beat the Egg. Even if they don't have the lowest price it doesn't matter because they have good customer service. I have bought lots of stuff from Newegg that wasn't necessarily the lowest price, but I didn't care because their guarantee is worth the extra bucks.

ok this thread is incredibly old but im curious if anyone has an opinion on portatech since this thread was originally posted?
what i hear is mostly good but it's really hard to tell from reviews.. as they are sadly commonly fake :(
i need it from the horses mouth.. er i mean i need honest opinions if anyone has dealt with them.
im specifically interested in their bare bones kits.
normally i buy part by part but they have some decent deals on their barebone kits..
it says they assemble, burn in test *rolls eyes* and then ship out.
my question is how the hell am i suppose to know if im getting NEW parts if it has marks and thermal compound from assembly?
could'nt they just as easily pass off used "pulls" as barebones?

I have ordered from Portatech. That was >1 year ago. Bought a barebone kit from them. Works fine to date. To be honest, I don't remember the details like delivery time, etc - but since I don't remember anything bad about those guys, it must mean I didn't have any trouble :-D
Just make sure you buy using a credit card, so if anything goes wrong, there's always that chargeback weapon that you can use.
Fry's or NewEgg .. forget the scam companies.

I ordered a computer off of http://www.portatech.com/ about a year ago and was actually very happy with their speed of service and shipping. I agree that they need more reviews on their website but other than that, they are great!

I've had good experiences with ZipZoomFly. TigerDirect is a little slow at times but also had no issues. More often than not though, their prices are way too high - unless you catch 1 of their clearance deals which are usually very good. Directron is ok but very slow and their website is about a decade behind the times. Fleabay well, it's Fleabay, what can you say. I haven't used the others.

I have used Tiger Direct for years and never had a bad experience.
The website is tigerdirect.com. You may find a better price, but the service and products have been reliable.

i bought my desktop from a canadian website. what i should suggest when buying a desktop is to customize is where ever you get it from, doesn't matter.
by custimizating, it helps to get parts that are cheaper, if you get them separated, instead of just getting a full desktop that has all the feature already build in.
just my thought
hope this helps

I like newegg too. I prefer to research the components and build the pc myself so newegg is perfect for that.

Its real, I have been in the store in FL, its on a strip mall. Its not fancy or swank , just pc parts on shelves waiting to be sold. These guys will build anything you want , you can be sure they won't lose any money on the deal ..If your local give them a try, you can check it out before you buy it , you may get a good deal .. If your lucky the hard times may give you the upper hand in making a deal . In this market there is no telling if they will last a year ? So if your looking for a long term tech support , good luck !
