or should I consider other brand? I heard samsung customer service is very rude and not helpful. People said their tv ended up not being repaired.

Which is more durable? sony or samsung? I know sony has more less defected products than any other brand. is that true? maybe its just because they are expensive =/

I really need a big tv because I'm still using a 29inch sdtv :(

i just bought samsung ln46a650 for 1799.99
amazing colors, rated closely to the sony 120hz tvs, but you typically save $500-$1000. The earlier 46a650 weren't the greatest as they had a glitch, which fixes with a small downloaded patch, but the current ones being sold all have the patch....
amazing tv, 4 hdmi inputs, 1080p with 120hz frame rate. lots of cool features and looks amazing. my jaw dropped once i hooked it up.

I was, like most of Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch , I'm currently a college student so it took me a long time just to save up for the 650. Just take my advice and see for yourself at Amazon. Samsung LN46A650 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV (http://astore.amazon.com/discount-lcd-tv-20/detail/B001413D94/103-7915826-3678206)

50,000:1 for the samsung is pretty dang good...
and yes, wall to wall they are very similar, but its an obvious buy when you are saving anywhere from 500-1000 on the tv

My jaw dropped when I saw that price. $1800 for a tv? You must have quite a job. I can't afford that. I just paid $370 for a used 32" Vizio and I think it's too big for my desktop. I can't imagine what a 46" tv would look like.

Then I looked at the number of posts Mattman has at 5,556 and my jaw dropped even more! Wow, that's more than Selma, an even more incredible feat!

I had a 19" Panasonic when I was in college too, but now I have a 46" in the living room and a 32" in the bedroom - that's what happens when you get a job! :lmao:

But I prefer Samsung over Sony. Both of mine are Samsungs and love the picture, color, and resolution on them. I can't comment on the CS, since I never had a reason to call them, but I noticed that Sony typically has a 20%+ premium on similar models, so that is something to consider. My friend has a 50" Sony, and have to admit it does look pretty sweet too, but he also paid a lot more for it then if he would have went with a Samsung.

I sold my sony 34 inch CRT and now looking for an LCD. Stuck between sony and samsung...I have been a sony fan for a long time but samsung is really has a good price plus their contrast ratio is much higher too. The samsung 650 has a 50,000:1 while the XBR4 has 18,000:1. Does contrast ratio make a big difference, if so, I will probably make the switch to Samsung..the touch of color seems real nice too.

I as well just bought the ln46a650, and Frys has it for $1.599,00 now!!

I am not rich but i got a 12 months no interest, so i can pay monthly around $150,00 for a HDTV that will last me for at least 10 years! (The life cycle of these new LCDs are about 15 years of very heavy use)
This TV must be the Camry of the HDTVs, everyone is getting one!! :D

I would not make a decision based off brand alone. Both companies have great products in general but they both dont make all products perfect. If your a college student and money is tight these are both kind of top end brands or they can be, Sony maybe slightly more. Decide how much you want to spend, Find the models that are in your price range and start reading. There are several sites that review the tv's. Cnet is a good place to start. See what the reviews say and go from there.

just bought 46 sony xbr4 at 1999 when it was on sale at BB. All I want to say that it's an amazing TV. But if I could get samsung 650 for $700 less , I would go for samsung. 750 even sells more than xbr4 at BB when I bought xbr4. Ready to buy PS3 bundle with $100 off if you buy HDTV at BB (believe it has to be Sony brand? you could apply sony card to receive another $100 off if you buy ps3., search this website)
I am thinking to buy extended warrantee from warranteqh, any thoughts?
You won't make a mistake if you pay close attention to what people said in SDs:-)

If you have a tight budget, go for samsung. Otherwise, sony has a better image.

However, my experience for sony products is that sony is not very durable.

personally, i find sony's color display to be the most modest, which is a good thing. other TVs seem to artificially color their picture. if the samsung is 10% or cheaper, i'd go for that. imo, i'd only buy a samsung or sony if i were looking for a high end.

I just got a 50# Samsung Plasma and am very happy with it. The picture is awesome. My MIL has had a Samsung LCD 27# for two years now and it has worked flawlessly and everyone compliments her on how great the picture is.

Plus, if you get a Samsung DVD or DVD/Bluray player, you can use the one tv remote to play both, so it cuts down on remotes needed!

Just my two cents.

I bought a Samsung, but wound up returning it because the picture had a slight ghost and tech support was inept at trying to fix it. I ended up paying $200 more for a Sony. It's well worth it.
