I just bought my girlfriend (I guess fiance now) a ring from diamondonnet.com (http://www.diamondonnet.com), and it was honestly one of the best buying experiences of my life. The price was incredible, the customer service was better than I thought even still existed, and the ring is the nicest I've ever seen.

I found their site almost by accident, and couldn't find any reviews. But they offer the chance to preview any item before buying it, simply by paying for the shipping each way, and my credit card has temporary numbers and great fraud protection, so I gave it a shot. I found a setting I really liked at a ridiculous price, and after looking around a few other places, decided to get it.

The next day, I actually stumbled onto their development site without realizing it, and found the same setting I had been looking at for $400 less (the prices had not been updated for the increase in the price of platinum). I ordered it right away, and got a call a day later. They had had a company meeting, and decided that although they were going to lose money on the sale, they were going to honor the price. That's right, they honored a $400 price mistake. At that point, I knew I was dealing with good people.

The setting was a three-stone, and came with the two side stones. When they asked where I was going to get the center stone, I told them that I had a local wholesaler who could get them very cheap. He said he'd try to beat any price I got locally, and ended up being able to. Actually, he beat my local price by a few dollars, and I said I would go ahead and order it, and then he said "oh, I see we had this stone listed for less . I'll go ahead and give it to you for the lower price." I kid you not - [I]I was already going to buy the stone, and he lowered the price for me, on a sale he was already losing money on.

I had them send me the loose stones and the setting, which came FedEx 2nd day. I've been looking at rings for months, and have never seen more perfect stones. These are absolutely beautiful - the center stone is D color, ideal cut with hearts and arrows, just perfect. The setting was unfinished - they make their own settings, so it was straight out of the mold. I sent it all back to be finished and set via FedEx, who somehow took 3 days to get a 2 day package there.

This delay threw us off our timeline - I was already pushing it to get it back here by Friday, so I could propose today. The cleaning, polishing, setting, etc. was supposed to take 2 full business days, because there were a couple orders in front of mine. When they found out how big of a hurry I was in, they moved my order, on which they were almost certainly still losing money, to the front of the line, and had it back out the same day. (I felt bad about the other two orders, but apparently they were already ahead on those, so they didn't make anyone late by moving mine up). Talk about customer service. It made it back here on Thursday, just over 24 hours after they first received it.

All in all, it's the most beautiful ring I've ever seen, at a price half what I was expecting (they blew away Blue Nile), and the customer service was beyond anything I ever expected. They treated me, a customer they were losing money on, like their prized customer. I absolutely can't recommend them enough.

By the way, before anyone tries it, they've fixed the glitch on their development site. You can no longer place orders there. But even without the price mistake, they were still well under all the other prices I'd found.

Wow, gorgeous ring! Congrats on your engagement. :)

I'll have to check out their site. I'm always looking for new jewelry. :)

Just came across this:

http://www.retailmenot.com/view/diamondonnet.com

When I bought, there weren't any coupons listed there. Now it looks like there are several, including an extra $100 off an order of $1000 or more.

Wow, what a beautiful ring! This would be a great gift to my wife when we'll have our second baby in december. May I ask how heavy the diamonds are and much you paid for it?

That's a beautiful ring. And what's a little erie, is that the engagement ring I had custom made for my wife looks very very similar to that. However, her ring I had made based on a mental picture of what I wanted. I'd never seen a ring like the one I wanted before..... strange...

I'm glad you had such a fantastic experience with them. However, I think you owe it to yourself to have the diamonds independently inspected to make sure they are exactly what you think they are (and what you paid for). Unless you yourself are a trained gemologist with the proper equipment, they could give you a much cheaper diamond in the setting and you'd never know the difference. Also, when you take it to be evaluated, have them give you an appraisal. This is helpful for insurance purposes, should you ever need to make a claim for the ring.

Sorry, I guess I left that out. The side stones are .33ct, and the center is .71. Total price, including the $400 price mistake, was just over $2800, so normal price would be around $3200.

Yeah, I took it to get it appraised so I could get an insurance policy on it. But that's an excellent tip for anybody who buys, especially online.

On October 8, 2008 my fiancé and I purchased a channel set princess cut 14K white gold band and a three stone, two sapphires and one diamond, channel set princess cut 14K white gold engagement ring from diamondonnet.com.
Throughout the purchasing process, we emailed DON many times and the customer service was good. They didn’t go into great detail when we asked what the return policy was. They would just send us a link to the website. That concerned us because we wanted to hear from them directly. Often times, our correspondence took place with Bijon. This concerned us that it was a one man show and that we might now be able to take action if they scammed us. I did some research and found out the owners name and other information like they were registered with the BBB. I called once and got a lady, all other times I got Bijon. They did always email us the same day and I couldn’t find anything bad about the company so we decided to make the purchase.
After we paid for the rings, we didn’t hear from anyone so I called to make sure they got the order. From there, I checked the website each day to see when it would ship. It shipped within one week from the date of purchase. They also shipped one day before they stated they would, which was nice. The rings arrived in good order.
Since we ordered off the net, we decided to have them appraised and inspected by a jeweler in our area. The appraisal from our local jeweler was more than what we paid for the rings but way less than what DON appraised the rings for. Our local jeweler told us that they thought that DON graded the rings higher than they should have been. In all, since we paid less than what our local jeweler appraised the rings at, we left it at that. So, you might want to be aware that the color and clarity for your purchase may be slightly different than what it really is.
I would purchase from DON again because they were easy to work with, cheaper than most places and proved that they can be trusted. If you would like more information from my experience, please email me at lmnoffsinger@hotmail.com

There are a lot of good sites now that are based on physical jewelry stores. I'd recommend these because at least you have someone to complain to if something goes wrong and/or you need to have your ring cleaned or repaired.

My family members have some friends who own a jewelry store and have tapped into their wholesale diamond network (http://www.caratcolor.com) in these harder times to try to clear inventory. That means some very slick deals (cheaper than Blue Nile) for bargain-hunters like us. They're also willing to offer a lot more service since they're hungry for a sale. The way this store has done it is that you choose a diamond and they will have someone actually help you build the ring. Or you can pick one off of Blue Nile or another site and they'll make it for you, but for a lot less money since they don't have Blue Nile's overhead costs.

I have a feeling you'll see a lot more of these places pop up as time goes on. Retail jewelry stores are going out of business all over the place. The one I mentioned is reputable and the prices are really cheap, though I'm sure there are more.

Congratulation on your engagement! This is a very special time. Treasure it and try not to let wedding planning stress you too much.

How legit is the EGL USA grading?

also I'm pretty sure allowishus works for whatever site it is that he promotes on every diamond thread
