I am looking for a electric shaver, and needed some suggestions?

I haven't looked at specific models yet, because I need help deciding between either a Panasonic, Norelco, or Braun brands first? I currently have a Braun, and it's lasted me about 8 years, but have no experience of the others.

Anyone have any feedback? I dont really know much about electric shavers....

The waterproof feature of the Panasonic is great.

I have had a Panasonic 10,000 RPM shaver for about 4 years and it's awesome. battery is starting to wear out but the shave is clean, never had to replace the head and that 10,000 RPM makes a difference as it cleans well with each pass. I think they are up to 13,000 RPM now. I had the Norelco triple head before that and frequently got burned so I will never go back. Plus the shape of that head is not good for my face.

Norelco

My dad and I use Norelco. His is probably 10+ years old and I'm looking for a replacement for him because the battery is going out. I'm amazed at how well these are made and that they've both lasted so long! I don't have any electronics that have lasted near as long except my old Sony satellite receiver which is still working but does not have any moving parts or a battery.

Well, now to really confuse you, I like Braun. The features I like are as follows:

Close shave
quick charge, under 1 hour
long battery life
foil and blade last a long time
waterproof
long life, my first one lasted 8 years and I'm on the 4th year with my current model

I've never used Panasonic but have owned a norelco. I hated it, it gave me horrible razor burn.

oh yeah... one of the catches with the Panasonic is that it cannot be used plugged in (I think braun can).

Norelco. I've got 2 and they are wonderful, especially for everyday use. Also have a Panasonic that isn't all that great (it was from SD about 6 months back).

I think it's between a new Braun or Panasonic. My current one is Braun and works great, and yes it works while plugged in, but just thought I'd get some reviews on the other brands first.

I have this model Braun: http://www.amazon.com/Braun-3-370-Mens-Shaver/dp/B0006ZM4LC/ref=pd_bbs_3?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1224651402&sr=8-3

and it works really well. I'm happy with it. It does not take long to recharge. The shave is quiet (compared to other shavers like Remington) and it is about as close as my previous Braun 5000 series model shaver which I bought about 9 or 10 years ago.

I feel like I'm in the same boat as you OP so if you are already familiar with Braun and like them then don't be afraid to give it a try. Btw - Even though the head is made of plastic, it doesn't feel like it. It's a hard tough plastic that feels durable and makes it easier to clean and wash.

I prefer Norelco. Didn't have a good experience with Panasonic. The foil broke after a few uses. Try to comparison shop at consumersearch.com , wize.com or epinions.com

I like the Braun XL's - particularly because it has the three sections for cutting.
Blades are just expensive to replace.

I like the Braun's no bulky power pack, A/C can use in any country, can be used plugged in. Last a long time.
Shaves me close.

I just got done purchasing a electric shaver. I tried all 4 brands. My trusty Norelco died after 20 years of use. It gave a terrific shave. The new ones are way underpowered and overpriced. The Panasonic gave the best shave out of the 3 when using it in the shower and especially with shaving cream. The unit gave a mediocre shave when dry though. I dont believe any of their units can be run on AC either. The Braun gave a very good shave but was very expensive. I finally tried a Remington MS390. I was surprised that it gave a terrific shave!!! I purchased the unit at Kohls on sale and with a coupon for around 30 bucks!! Its kinda loud but it beats the heck out of most shavers on the market at 1/5 the price!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way, Its kinda ironic but i picked up a consumer report magazine right after i purchased the Remington and they came out with the same conclusion!!!!!! It was their favorite also................

I've never tried a Panasonic, but I liked a Braun I used for a few days about a decade ago, and my own shavers have all been Norelcos.

I recently started to use a Norelco 6844 Reflex Action and find that it shaves better than my 4805 Micro Action. I don't know if this is due to the individual heads being able to pivot more or because their cutters are angled more steeply (the heads can be interchanged, although Norelco recommends against it).

I currently own the Braun Activator and the Norelco Reflex. The Braun is nice due to the self cleaning feature where you just stick it in the base and it automatically cleans and dries it. However, the Braun is a foil shaver and for me and my face, it always seems to take much longer to shave than Norelco does and I have to make more passes over each area. The Norelco is much quieter, and I get a good shave much quicker.

I may have to try the Panasonic as I like the idea of it being waterproof and usable with shaving cream.

I swear by the Braun Shavers. I have a 4000 series and a 3000 series and have used them for years. If you have one, rather than buy new, you can replace the foil and cutters and they are good as new. Usually http://www.youngzebra.com has the best deals on the foil and or cutters.

I bought a Philips (Norelco) at London's Heathrow Airport in 1986 and it lasted 20+ years with no problems before the battery went out. Got a replacement that's ok but not as well made nor does it shave as well. Also have a Braun for the downstairs bathroom that's loud but shaves well. The Norelco is their middle range, the Braun a cheapie $25 from Target. I'd not spend that much 'cause I've not noticed any worthwhile difference. Using electric pre-shave, though, does make a BIG difference. Worthwhile. Or use talcum powder if you don't want to spend that much money.

Norelco 650TX replaced a 20-yr. old model that was FABULOUS. the 650TX just wasn't the same so switched to Braun's 8985. eh, ok but not as good as the old Norelco so switched to Panasonic's ES8228 which was highly rated about a yr. ago. As the shavER, I like the feel of the Panny and think it works better than the Braun but then again - it's not my face so I defer to DH who says they're both adequate but neither are as good as the old Norelco! So, we're still searching for Nirvana - please LMK if you find it first.

wife bought me the Remington MS-5100 Titanium last year... this is probably the worst shaver in the world... takes me about 10-15 minutes to shave, and usually misses a bunch of hairs so i have to go over it with a flat blade... so yeah, i never use it...
