BOTH ITEMS MUST BE SOLD FROM AMAZON IN ORDER FOR THE $200 DISCOUNT TO BE APPLIED AT CHECKOUT

Canon just started a new instant rebate program for some camera/lens combos yesterday. One instant rebate offer is $200 off instantly if you buy the Rebel XSi kit and the 55-250mm IS lens together. Amazon has the XSi kit for $600 and the 55-250mm lens for $245 which totals to $845. You won't see the instant rebate of $200 until you get to the checkout screen. Add a 50mm f1.8 lens to this deal and you have an excellent DSLR starter set.

PS. Not sure if it's a stackable offer or not but canon also has a $50 MIR loyalty offer for people who purchase an XSi and have registered a Powershot camera prior to Oct 12th.

Amazon has Canon Digital Rebel XSI 12MP Digital SLR Camera with Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS lens + Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS lens for $843 - $200 instant rebate = $643. Tiffen UV filter is free, as well. Lowest on Google Products for Canon Xsi Kit is $545, and $240 for Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS lens. Thank you simonnyc

Note: In order to receive $200 instant discount, both Canon XSi /w Kit lens and Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS lens, and Tiffen UV filter have to be added in cart.

Nice deal! I got the same combo back in May with the same instant rebate but it came out to about $745 at the time. Really happy with the camera and lenses. The 50mm f 1.8 is fantastic too.

If you're on the fence and looking for a reason to jump on this, back in May the demand shot up enough for Amazon to raise the price on the camera after this instant rebate began. They dropped it back down after 3-4 weeks but it shot up around $50-100 at first. Good luck all!

Go to amazon.com and do a search for "canon 55-250mm"

Just make sure both camera and lens are being sold by amazon and not a 3rd party vendor.

Considering the fact that the 55-250mm lens usually sells for around $240-250, getting the XSi kit for $400 is a really good deal.

I was going to ask the same question about links.
I *think* I found the right camera but I'm not sure.
When I add both the camera and lens to my cart, I'm at $645 like OP says.

I've tried looking for this camera on DPreview but I can't find it.

Great timing on the thread OP, thanks.
I'm actually looking to get into DSLR.
Would this be considered a starter dslr?

One thing I couldn't find... for this camera, is IS on the camera or lens?
Which is better? I've read pro and cons for both.

Thanks.

Best price ever on this camera.

No advertising, go for it. Right price, right camera, right time.

I'm personally more a semi photographer and 2nd hand dealer on ebay. In for one for me. Gonna sell everything else but get a $40 - 50 18-55mm IS lens for my buddy.

(let me do the math: New 55-250 IS lens, 200 local / 210 -30 ebay = 180 lowest
brand new XSi Body, 480 local / 480 -45 ebay = 435 lowst

Cheers~~
